Who can join the DeLand Book Club?
Anyone who loves to read and discuss books is welcome! Whether you’re a longtime Florida resident or just visiting, we’d love to have you join us.
When and where does the book club meet?
We meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Elusive Grape. 129 N. Woodland Blvd, DeLand FL 32720.
Come a few minutes early to settle in and order drinks and appetizers.
Do I need to RSVP?
RSVPs aren’t required, but they are appreciated! They help us plan for seating and ensure we can accommodate everyone comfortably.
How do I RSVP?
You can RSVP through our Facebook group.
Is there a charge to join the book club?
No, there’s no charge to participate—but if you’d like, you can contribute $1 to $5 at each meeting to help defray organizing expenses. We’ll pass an envelope around to make it easy.
We also encourage you to order drinks and appetizers to support the venue.
What books will we read?
Our 2025 reading list features books with a Florida connection. You can see our schedule here.
Do I need to read the book to attend?
We encourage everyone to read the book to get the most out of the discussion, but it’s not mandatory. If you haven’t finished (or started!) the book, you’re still welcome to join and listen.
Can I listen to the book on Audible?
Yes! Audiobooks are a great option for those who like to hear their stories on the go.
Do I have to buy the book?
Not at all! You can borrow a copy from the library or share a copy with another member of the group. Whether you buy the book or borrow it, you’re welcome to join the discussion.
Are eBooks okay?
Absolutely. eBooks, paper books, and audiobooks are valid options. If you’d like, bring your eReader or paper book to the meeting for reference.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and any thoughts about the book you’d like to share.
What’s the format of the meeting?
We start with introductions and a lighthearted icebreaker question to get the conversation flowing. These are fun, easy questions like “What’s your favorite comfort food?” Then we dive into the discussion. Everyone is welcome to contribute their thoughts or just listen.
How long do meetings last?
Meetings typically last between an hour or two, depending on the discussion flow and the size of the group.
What happens if I can’t attend every month?
No problem! Attend as many meetings as your schedule allows. Each book discussion stands on its own, so you can jump in at any time.
Do you have any discussion rules?
We want to keep our book discussions fun, respectful, and inclusive. To ensure everyone feels comfortable, we won’t discuss politics, religion, or R-rated content during our meetings.
Additionally, while we may read books that touch on Florida’s quirks, we celebrate the state and its people—no Florida-bashing here! Our focus is always on the books and the joy of reading.
How can I get updates?
