Get Ready for Great Conversations

At our book club meetings, we always have a few specific questions planned for the book of the month (you can find them on the book’s page). But don’t worry if you haven’t had time to think about them in advance!

We might also dip in and out of these 20 lighthearted, open-ended questions, which are perfect for sparking fun, easy conversations about any book. Whether you’ve read every word or just skimmed a chapter, there’s always something to say—or you can simply listen and enjoy.

General Impressions

  1. What did you think of the book overall? Did it meet your expectations?
  2. Did anything about the book surprise you, either in a good or bad way?
  3. How did the book make you feel while reading it?

Characters

  1. Which character did you like or relate to the most, and why?
  2. Were there any characters you didn’t like or found frustrating?
  3. If you could meet one character in real life, who would it be and what would you ask them?

Plot and Pacing

  1. What was your favorite part of the story? Were there any parts you’d change?
  2. Did the story keep you engaged, or were there moments it felt slow?
  3. What’s one thing that stood out to you about the way the story unfolded?

Themes and Takeaways

  1. Did the book remind you of any experiences or other stories you’ve encountered?
  2. What message or theme from the book resonated with you the most?
  3. If you had to describe the book in one word, what would it be?

The Writing

  1. Did you enjoy the author’s writing style? Was it easy to read, or did you need to adjust to it?
  2. Was there a particular scene or quote that stuck with you?
  3. If you could ask the author one question about this book, what would it be?

Creative and Fun

  1. If you were casting this book as a movie, who would play the main characters?
  2. What would you title the book if you had to rename it?
  3. If this book had a sequel or prequel, what would you want it to be about?
  4. What kind of reader would you recommend this book to? Is it for everyone or a specific type of reader?
  5. If you could change one thing about the book—whether it’s the ending, a character, or something else—what would it be?
